H.E Gregory Andrews, Australia's High Commissioner to Ghana, is likely to return to Australia before December 25, 2021.
His return to Australia is the consequence of a petition signed by several Ghanaians in the diaspora urging the Australian government to remove him from office in order to preserve the "cordial relations" between the two countries.
Gregory Andrews is allegedly being recalled due of his apparent engagement in LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana, which has caused him some concern in the country.
"The posture of H.E Gregory Andrews concerning the promotion of LGBTQ+ affairs was at variance with the responsibilities of a High Commissioner/Ambassador and the dignity that comes with the position," according to a letter seen by citinewsroom.com and signed by Ghana's High Commissioner to Australia, Dr. Joseph Agoe.
"At a meeting held on Thursday, August 5, at a meeting held on Thursday, August 5, at a meeting held on Thursday, August 5, at a meeting held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 that H.E Gregory Andrews' behavior is unacceptable and could jeopardize the strong and cordial relations between our two countries."
During his 18-month tenure as High Commissioner, the soon-to-be-former oversaw eight West African countries, including Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo, with a combined population of more than 120 million people.
In an interview with Citi News' Fred Duhoe, the High Commissioner conveyed his profound gratitude to inhabitants of the eight nations, particularly in Ghana, for their goodwill.
"Unfortunately, I will be leaving Ghana. The Ghanaians have been so generous to me, and my monthly blood donations here transcend the supposed disparities between cultures and people."
He observed that "at least three Ghanaians have my blood running" after participating in a national blood donation exercise for the third time.in their bloodstreams In truth, we are all human beings who deserve to be treated with respect and love. "Our common humanity is what I will remember from my stay in Ghana."
Although his time in Ghana was brief, the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana has a wealth of anecdotes to tell about Ghanaian food, music, and other memorable recollections.
He has interacted with regular individuals on the streets of Accra and other countries under his jurisdiction at various times.
He drove in goods-carrying vehicles while disguised, pulling a truckload of coconuts, riding a tricycle, pushing ice cream as a seller, and pulling a truckload of coconuts.
Gregory Andrew is an outspoken supporter of human rights and a climate change activist.
He adores nature and has always spent his weekends riding bicycles and climbing hills miles from Accra in the company of mountaineers.
