The House of Parliament reconvenes today, Tuesday, November 30 to resolve issues relating to the 2022 budget.
While the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus wants the Akgyenkwa budget to be approved, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus is of the view that the budget does not meet the national interest and therefore certain things in it must be retracted if it must be approved.
The NDC want the introduction of the 1.5 percent levy on electronic transactions in the 2022 budget to be reconsidered and they also want the Agyapa Deal to be withdrawn.
The NDC caucus among the five demands listed in a press statement, wants the budget to make provisions to address the plight of the victims of the tidal wave in Keta in the Volta Region whose houses and properties were devastated.
The budget was disapproved on Friday through a voice vote after the NPP Caucus staged a walk-out and sitting was adjourned by the Speaker to Tuesday, November 30.
However, briefing the press, the Majority Leader, Kyei Mensah-Bonsu questioned the legality with which the budget was rejected. He said the rejection was unconstitutional.
This makes Ghanaians eager to know what will transpire in the Chamber today.
Will the NPP swallow the humble pie and revise the budget? What will be the reactions in the house today?
Stay tuned.
