Thiago Silva has responded to Paul Scholes' suggestion that Cristiano Ronaldo will have an easier time against him in Manchester United's match against Chelsea.
In the 1-1 draw, Ronaldo came off the bench, but his duel with Silva was billed as key, and Scholes thought it should be straightforward for the striker.
Following the game, a Chelsea supporter Instagram account wrote: 'Facing Thiago Silva would have been easy for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Paul Scholes.'
'It is always easy, especially for those who have stopped playing!!' said the 37-year-old.
This season, Silva has been brilliant for the Blues, who have qualified for the Champions League knockout stages while still remaining in first place in the Premier League.
Silva played the entire 90 minutes of United's 2-2 draw, in which Jorginho's error led to the hosts surrendering the first goal. Chelsea, despite their possession domination, were unable to produce a winner as the Italian made atonement by stroking home his penalty to square the scores.
In his second and final game as temporary manager Michael Carrick, Ronaldo was a surprise absence.
He asserted that the Portuguese had accepted the decision after they had discussed it.
The 36-year-old was called on to help United win the game in the second half, but he was unable to do so.
Now that Ralf Rangnick has been named as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's replacement for the season, it will be interesting to watch how he uses the striker.
United sit in seventh place, 12 points behind Chelsea, and host Arsenal on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
