are told they must play in empty stadium
As Germany reacts to an increase in coronavirus infections, Bayern Munich is preparing to play its forthcoming home matches behind closed doors at the Allianz Arena.
Due in part to the novel Omicron form, Europe is currently experiencing a surge of cases, with Bavaria in particular adopting a number of steps to stem the spread.
All of the area's Christmas markets, which are usually a big draw with locals and tourists, have been canceled, and football has been moved back inside closed doors as well.
The national government will meet on Tuesday to discuss next actions, but Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soder has already made his decision, saying: 'It makes no sense to admit viewers again in the foreseeable future.' It is in response to this critical demand that we have decided to stop admitting viewers in the future. We would do it for Bavaria alone if that doesn't work at the federal level.'
Soder then used his Twitter account to defend the move, saying, 'The high mobility when moving to and from the club is currently irresponsible.' Football serves as an excellent role model. We must now reduce contact in all areas.
