Teachers and students at Three Towns Senior High School queued up in August to observe the horrific image of a pupil attempting to murder his instructor.
It was a dramatic scene in the Aflao circuit court yesterday, November 30, 2021, when Gilbert Akakpo realized that his WASSCE results would arrive while he was incarcerated. His mother broke down in tears, unable to control herself. Many people chastised her for not utilizing her emotions to negotiate an out-of-court settlement rather than hiring a lawyer to represent her son in this heinous deed.
Gilbert Akakpo was arrested in August 2021 for attempting to chop his teacher's skull in half with a machete. This was after an ICT teacher intervened to stop him from bullying a first-year student.
The teacher had to use his hand to block the machete. This resulted in a serious cut with flowing blood. The incident was reported to the authorities, and the student was arrested as a result. The boy's confidence and hubris brought him to court, where his lawyer attempted to kill the case with weak arguments that failed.
Gilbert Akakpo has been sentenced to 120 days in prison by the court (4 months).
