In a clash between the police force and some youths in an attempt by the Tema West Municipal Assembly to reclaim the Kotobabi Market area, one person died and another person severely injured.
Squatters who occupied the area opposed every attempt to evacuate them.
The market, which is referred to as Kotobabi Market, is said to be an area where lawless activities such as prostitution and drug trafficking take place.
Speaking to TV3, the Tema West Municipal Executive, Anna Akwei Addo said the squatters resisted evacuation and launched an attack on the security personnel until they had to call for reinforcement.
“There were about 70 guys over here, they attacked the engineer, they attacked the Police officers over here so they had to call for reinforcement and that is what you can see now.
Some of them tried even pulling the Police officers, some even tried to slap them and as a result of that two people were shot, one is currently dead, the other one is still at the hospital.”
Suspects alleged to be Nigerians have been nabbed by the cops.
