Barcelona announced the re-signing of Dani Alves shortly after unveiling Xavi Hernandez as the new head coach. The Brazilian was signed on a free transfer and is said to have been one of Xavi's first demands to his new club.
The Brazilian full-back revealed he returned to Barcelona to help after the club's "rock bottom" situation. In the aftermath of Lionel Messi's departure, Barcelona has suffered. They appear to be on the verge of being eliminated from the Champions League group stage.
Dani Alves explains why he returned to Barcelona when asked why.
"When you see that the biggest player in the history of the club has just left, you realise that the club has hit rock bottom. So, we [Alves and Xavi] decided to come back... and for me it was very easy to return because the club needed me."
The 38-year-old Brazilian defender, who has previously won everything there is to win in professional football, is currently unavailable for selection. Because Dani Alves was signed outside of the transfer window, he was unable to participate in any tournament for Barcelona. When the transfer window opens in January 2022, he will be available for registration and selection.
Dani Alves will surely be a valuable addition to the team's locker room. He is a proven winner who will serve as an essential role model for the team's younger players.
