The Upper Manya Krobo District Health Directororate has expressed concern about low vaccination coverage for Covid-19 in the district as a result of widespread rumours.
By the end of this year, the Health Directorate expects to vaccinate 50,104 residents but only 282 people have been fully immunized since the vaccine campaign began.

According to the Director, Esther Dua Oyinka, it is alleged that men who take the vaccine will be rendered impotent while women who take it will become barren.
She also said one of the reasons why the residents are not willing to be vaccinated is that there is a misconception that the Akufo-Addo-led administration intends to use the vaccines to influence the minds of people to vote in favor of the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming general elections.
“Even some are saying it is the government that has put in certain things to make up for the vaccine to vaccinate them so that it will change their minds from voting for any other party except the ruling party," she said.
Most of the residents in the district are farmers with low levels of literacy.
She adds that awareness-raising efforts have been stepped up to debunk misconceptions and to convince them to get vaccinated.
