The Magpies are in a dire situation, but could these African players help them?
Incoming manager Eddie Howe retains faith that Newcastle United can avoid the drop despite their woeful start to the season, although he’ll surely need to invest heavily in his squad during the January transfer window.
So far, they’ve lost seven and drawn seven of their matches so far, and are without a win in 14 matches.
They remain the only team without a win in the Premier League so far this season, but following the Saudi takeover, Howe has some major ambitions to meet.
The Magpies’ new owners already have ambitions of challenging for the Premier League within the next five years but all of those plans will have to take a halt – for now at least.
At the moment, escaping relegation is the club’s priority.
Newcastle are expected to spend big in January and in this feature, GOAL’s Kolade Daniel takes a look at African stars who could help Howe mount a second-half season revival.
Eric Bailly
Newcastle have conceded a whopping 29 goals already and their struggles have been compounded by a series of errors at the back.
In a quest to strengthen their defence, Howe could turn to Manchester United defender Bailly.
The Ivorian is out of favour at Old Trafford and could fancy such a move if it would provide him with ample gametime.
However, the Magpies will have to ward off interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who are also rumoured to be interested in the 27-year-old. Other players like Nicolas pepe, Umar Sadiq, Elneny Mohamed can be of assistance to help Newcastle from going to relegation.
