According to Football Insider, Chelsea are preparing to give Edouard Mendy a new and improved deal. The team is happy with his recent performances and believes the Senegalese goalkeeper is due a substantial boost.

Since joining the club from Stade Rennais in the summer of 2020, the 29-year-old goalkeeper has had a significant influence. He has won the Champions League with the club, securing his place in goal ahead of world-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea believe the ever-present shot-stopper is a 'low earner' in comparison to players of his calibre, according to Football Insider. The club believes he is underpaid in comparison to some of his teammates and is working to rectify the problem as soon as possible. On a contract that continues through 2025, the Chelsea goalkeeper makes almost £60,000 per week. That's a lot less than his performances justify, and it's even less than Chelsea's Danny Drinkwater.

Chelsea are hoping to offer the Senegalese goalkeeper a contract that is more in line with his position at the club, and to finish things up as soon as possible to forestall any interest from their competitors. Since joining Chelsea under Frank Lampard, the Senegalese international has been unstoppable. Since his £20 million arrival, he has appeared in nearly all of Chelsea's Premier League and Champions League games.

Mendy, meanwhile, has had a fantastic second season with Chelsea. In 13 games this season, the Senegalese goalkeeper has only allowed six goals, placing him second in the recent Lev Yashin award. Tuchel has put together one of Europe's most formidable defences. Chelsea will want to sign him to a long-term contract. Many supporters were surprised when Gianluigi Donnarumma was named the winner of the Lev Yashin trophy. Eduoard Mendy, Chelsea's outstanding goalkeeper, was widely expected to win the honour, especially after his sensational performances helped the Blues win the Champions League.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was quick to comfort the Chelsea goalkeeper, praising his stellar record and desire to win:

"I'm sure he's sad that he didn't get the prize. He is driven by ambition. This is very normal. At the same time, he deserves to be there and understands the significance."

"Since joining Chelsea, he has enjoyed a fantastic track record. Clean sheets, prosperity, and titles were all crucial. He deserved to be at the top of his game. There's no need to be concerned about him."
