According to El Nacional, a Catalan news agency, Barcelona has been told they will have to pay €30 million to sign Anthony Martial away from Manchester United.
In September 2015, Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from AS Monaco in a move that made him the most expensive teenager in the world at the time. The Frenchman made an early impact at the club, scoring a fantastic solo goal against arch rivals Liverpool on his debut. Martial finished his first season as Manchester United's leading scorer, and the Frenchman appeared to have no limits at Old Trafford.
However, the 26-year-recent old's performances at Old Trafford have been disturbingly inconsistent. Since finishing as Manchester United's top scorer in the 2019/20 season, the Frenchman's form has deteriorated. Martial has struggled to find a place in Manchester United's starting lineup this season, appearing in only 359 minutes and scoring only once in ten appearances. Manchester United is considering selling the attacker due to his shocking decrease in form, with Barcelona among his suitors.
Barcelona is currently without a recognised goal scorer, and Xavi has been forced to use Memphis Depay in a pivotal role due to Sergio Aguero's absence. Adding Martial might help Xavi resurrect Blaugrana, which has struggled since Lionel Messi's departure.
Despite their financial difficulties, Barcelona can pay Manchester United's asking price of €30 million, and rumours say that Martial might be open to a move if it happens. Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez, on the other hand, has the last say on whether or not to make the move for the one-time wonder kid. I'd rather speak about the players who are now present: Xavi remains tight-lipped about his desire to join Barcelona from Manchester United.
When asked about the players Barcelona may buy to improve their alternatives, the Blaugrana boss admitted that some players would have to depart, but declined to mention names. Xavi explained: "The club is attempting to strengthen its team, and if new players are needed, certain players may have to depart. I'm not going to discuss names right now; instead, I'll discuss the guys we currently have."When asked about Edinson Cavani's rumoured interest in joining Barcelona from Manchester United, Xavi responded: "I think he's a good player, but I'd rather talk about the guys who are now on the team, who are vital, and who require the fans' and our support. Cavani, on the other hand, is a fantastic player."
Since beloved club legend Xavi took over, there has been a noticeable shift in energy at the Camp Nou. However, it remains to be seen whether the Spaniard can orchestrate a dramatic change in fortune.
