On Sunday, RB Leipzig parted ways with head coach Jesse Marsch, a move that could have long-term implications for Chelsea.

Leipzig has developed into a German football powerhouse in recent seasons, reaching the Champions League semi-finals in less than 18 months.

However, their star has sunk under Marsch's leadership. They're already out of Europe's top competition this season, despite being drawn in a tough Group A with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, and they're currently 11th in the Bundesliga.

Leipzig is really closer to Arminia Bielefeld in 17th place than Bayer Leverkusen in third place.

The final straw came when Leipzig lost 2-1 at Union Berlin on Friday.

On Sunday, the club made the unavoidable news that Marsch had gone by "mutual consent."

Even as recently as Saturday, a list of possible replacements to Marsch was circulating — and this is where Chelsea comes in. Is Leipzig about to go low?

Of course, Leipzig will not be able to entice Thomas Tuchel back to his homeland from Chelsea, but the Bundesliga club is ready to shortlist his assist for the post.

Since working with Tuchel at PSG in 2018, Zsolt Low has been his right-hand man.

Most importantly, the Hungarian is familiar with the RB Leipzig system. In 2012, he began his coaching career at Red Bull Salzburg, where he rose through the ranks to become an assistant manager in 2014. He moved to Leipzig a year later and stayed there till Tuchel lured him to Paris in 2018. For Leipzig, Low checks a lot of boxes, and he might see this as a great opportunity to go his own way.

However, the shortlist includes nine names, including PSV manager Roger Schmidt and Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic.

There's no assurance Tuchel will lose any of his top generals at Chelsea, but the possibility of a deal exists.
