The Member of Parliament for Bekwai and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Osei Owusu, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in Parliament to air their views and recommendations and allow the ruling party to be penalized for its unfavorable policies.
Speaking on The Probe on Sunday, December 5, he said, it is upon the NDC caucus to tell Ghanaians what alternatives they have in respect of the policies stated in the 2022 government's budget statement and economic policy but it is not upon them to impose their alternatives on the ruling party.
He said Ghanaians will penalize the ruling party at the polls if its policies are not favourable to them but for the NDC caucus to think it is incumbent upon the ruling party to subscribe to their views is what he finds problematic.
"Tell Ghanaians your alternatives and allow them to punish us at the polls," he said.
The Bekwai MP's comments are on the back of the controversies surrounding the approval of the 2022 budget.
The NDC wants the government to scrap a 1.75 percent e-levy on electronic transactions and to also scrap the Agyapa deal in the budget.
The NDC, among five concerns raised, also wants the budget to address the challenges of the victims of the tidal wave whose homes and properties were devastated by tidal waves.
The budget has caused controversies and as to whether it has been constitutionally approved or not, Ghanaians are still in a state of confusion.
However, the First Deputy Speaker believes that the NDC cannot impose its views on the ruling government but can only make recommendations.
