Transport operators in Ashaiman who are members of the Coalition of Transport Owners Union have converted their lorry station into a football park as they play football while commuters are left stranded.

Commuters, made up of workers and students who went to use the services of the transport operators in Ashaiman were astonished to see the drivers and conductors turn themselves into Ronaldos and Messis dribbling ball in the lorry station with a woman providing commentaries.

The Coalition of Transport Owners Union has halted operations across the country to force the government to scrap fives levies at the pump.

The union had threatened to strike in November 2021 but due to numerous engagements with the government, it had not been possible.

However, the union has decided to embark on an indefinite sit-down strike on Monday, December 6, 2021, to express its grievances.

The Spokesperson for the union, Imoro Abass, while speaking to JoyNews on Sunday, said government had not addressed their concerns despite several meetings with some governmental organizations.

The coalition of private transport operators consists of Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), Association of Tipper Truck Drivers, Harbor Transport Owners, Ghana National Cargo Transport Association, Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Concerned Drivers Association, Digital Drivers, Commercial motorbike riders, popularly referred to as Okada, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers and others.

In most parts of Accra like Lapaz, drivers who defied the directive were forced to alight their passengers. Some had parts of their vehicles damaged by aggrieved protestors.
