Former Bank of Ghana Governor and one-time Finance Minister under the late President Rawlings and Mills respectively, Dr. Kwabena Duffour has made some revelations about his Presidential ambitions.
In an interview with GhOne TV, the business mogul and former Finance indicate that the late Jerry John Rawlings urged him to contest the 2018 primaries of the NDC and promised to support and lead the campaign.
Dr. Duffour has been granting media interviews on the economy and the dream of the Ghanaian. His last public lecture professed solutions to youth unemployment, corruption and the struggling economy.
His comments points to the fact that, he is nursing an ambition to contest for the 2022 Presidential primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress and if successful, the Presidency.
"When the late President Rawlings in 2018 urged me to run for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, I declined because I felt the time was not right.
He said he was going to lead the campaign himself but I didn't. The only reason I am doing so now is because I think the party can still do better and it must involve everyone", he said.
Although Dr. Duffour has not officially made a statement about his Presidential ambitions, names like Alban Bagbin and Haruna Iddrisu have been tipped as possible running mates.
In 2018, President Mahama, Alban Bagbin and four other candidates contested the primaries of the NDC.
The NDC is expected to begin party reorganization for the 2024 elections next year with election of branch, ward, constituency, region and national officers.
