Some months ago, I published an article that was circulated by most of the media houses in Ghana. The title of the article was a simple question; “Is Anas Aremeyaw Anas dead?” This question sent shivers down the spines of many readers and resulted in me being at the receiving end of showers of verbal assaults. Of about the one hundred thousand readers that read the article however, some sixty thousand people praised my skills in critically analyzing the happenings at the camp of the Tiger Eye Private Investigation firm.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas over the years has carved a name for himself as the most dreaded investigative journalist on the African continent. The name behind the Tiger Eye PI has travelled the length and breadth of the African continent in his quest to quench the fires of corruption which was at it’s blossoming stages on the continent. Even though Anas Aremeyaw Anas is without doubt the most loved investigative journalist in Africa, his rather ruthless fury towards corruption has created him a good number of enemies. With key investigations in Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries, Anas Aremeyaw Anas caused a lot of job losses to people caught in corrupt acts by his hidden cameras. The Tiger Eye Private Investigation firm has severally confirmed reports of death threats on the life of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. On the 16th of January 2019, a young man by the name Ahmed Husein-Suale was assassinated by unknown gunmen who shot him twice on the chest and once in the neck. According to reports at the time, the assassins mistook the young Ahmed Husein-Suale for Anas Aremeyaw Anas. It was however later confirmed that the late Ahmed Husein-Suale was a close associate of Anas Aremeyaw Anas and has worked closely with the later on many investigative pieces.

Following the assassination of Ahmed Husein-Suale, the Tiger Eye Private investigation firm has undertaken a number of investigations both in Ghana and in other African countries. However, some key elements of their investigations seem to have gone missing since the assassination. For instance, the tact, passion and enthusiasm displayed by the ‘old’ Anas Aremeyaw Anas is no longer evident in the most recent investigative pieces. Many patrons of the journalist’s investigative videos keep expressing dissatisfaction in the sharp contrast between the old investigative pieces and the new ones since the assassination of Ahmed Husein-Suale. According to some of these patrons, the recent videos fail to meet Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ own standards.

The sudden change in passion and investigative approach following the death of Ahmed Suale has led to many people raising the question of whether Ahmed was the real Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Some unrepentant optimists tried to explain the situation by claiming that the changes noticed by patrons may be due to the possibility that Anas Aremeyaw Anas has grown more careful following the assassination of his colleague. However, even those embedded in denial the most are yet to make any convincing argument that proves that Ahmed Husein-Suale was not Anas Aremeyaw Anas in real life.

It is well known that Anas is a native of Bimbila in the Northern region of Ghana and has spent his childhood at the Burma Camp military barracks in Accra. He is said to have attended the Christian Methodist Senior High School, the Ghana Institute of Journalism and the University of Ghana. Ahmed Husein-Suale’s biography on the other hand remains as protected as the White House of the United States of America. This is surprising considering that information on Anas Aremeyaw Anas is out in the media whilst that of his alleged associate Ahmed Husein-Suale remains protected.

It is an irrefutable fact that the fans, lovers and the scores of the African people who hate the canker of corruption will wish for Anas Aremeyaw Anas to remain alive forever because of his good works against corruption. Everyone is therefore scared to ask the dreaded question. I however beg to differ and ask the two questions no one is willing and able to ask; “Is Ahmed Husein-Suale the same person as Anas Aremeyaw Anas? Is the real Anas Aremeyaw Anas dead?
