Dr Donald Agumenu, a governor Expert has disclosed that many Ghanaians in the country are experiencing mental and emotional trauma and disturbances due to the mode of handling the 2022 budget statement in Parliament by the Lawmakers and leaders in the country.
According to Dr Donald Agumenu, the controversy emanating from the Parliament of Ghana about the 2022 budget statement is endangering the well-being and mental health of the Ghanaian citizenry.
He further opined that the situation is very worrisome and hence should be handled diplomatically and appropriately in other to ignite calm in the minds of the individuals as they are very much concerned with the budget statement because they are the taxpayers.
"I think we need a clear position from our MPs, in the 8th Parliament on the 2022 budget. Ghanaians are going through mental torture from this crafted statement. The choreography is getting out of hand. If it is true that peace is not the only absence of war, then it makes sense to conclude that, the climate in Parliament at the moment is endangering the mental. health and wellbeing of the Ghanaian citizens. Therefore, let's come clear and move forward", Dr Donald explained.
It could be recalled that there was a thrilling and hot debate mixing with confusion on the 1st of December 2021 in the Parliament of Ghana due to the debate on the 2022 budget statement presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta on behalf of the government.
However, the Minority Caucus in Parliament have motioned against some of the packages contained in the budget statement notable among them is the Electronic Transaction Levy on Merchant transaction, Mobile transaction, banking and online transaction etc.
According to the Minority, the introduction of the Electronic Transactions Levy also called E-Levy on the Ghanaian taxpayers is unfair and will further bring hardship and suffering with which the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu described as 'Krom Ay3 Shi'.
Meanwhile, the Majority Caucus in Parliament has also refuted the motion defending that, the packages contained in the 2022 budget statement such as the E-Levy is necessary for mobilising fund for government to eradicate the wallowing effect of unemployment in the country plus another pressing matter.
It is also noted that the Electronic Transactions Levy has sparked a lot of confusion and gets the citizens talking with many reactions from social media users in the country.
This has, however, attributed to the comments made by the former aid to the late former president Rawlings, Dr Donald Agumenu revealing that the 2022 budget controversy is generating abnormal mental wellbeing of Ghanaians in the country.
