LEADERSHIP IS LACKING SO FAR, SHOW LEADERSHIP BY EXAMPLE - OKUDZETO ABLAKWA FIRES PREZ. NANA ADDO

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as urged the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo to suspend all his foreign travels for one month to exhibit his leadership by example role per his directives given to his appointees in the country. 

On the 5th of December 2021, the President, Nana Akufo Addo ordered all Ministers and Deputy Ministers who are holding parliamentary positions or Members of Parliament in the country not to travel outside the country for one month. 

However, the rationale behind the directives from the President has not been revealed meanwhile, sources emanating from Ghana Jubilee House indicates that President Nana Akufo Addo wants all Members of Parliament to be present when Parliament commence an appropriation into the 2022 budget statement or estimate for the 2022 fiscal year in the country.

Furthermore, according to the presidential directives, Ministers and Deputy Ministers who are however in need of Emergency Medical attention and other Emergencies will therefore be permitted to travel outside.

On that note, the Ranking Member of Parliament on the Foreign Affairs Committee in Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa speaking in an interview on Citi news said that the president of the country, Nana Akufo Addo must show leadership by example by not travelling out of the country to get his 2022 budget statement approved in parliament.

Furthermore, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa again added that President Nana Akufo Addo should invest efforts into ensuring that there is utmost consensus on matters relating to the 2022 budget statement since leadership have been missing.

"He(Akufo Addo) himself must suspend travels and lead the efforts towards ensuring approval of the 2022 budget statement. What is lacking so far is leadership. That trip should have been suspended because your legislative body is in crisis and you are holding meetings with legislators in another jurisdiction. What we expect to see is that the president will bring leadership to bear. He must take over the budget approval process. The president has been missing. He must lead the mediation and listen to the Ghanaian people ", Mr Ablakwa explained.

The announcement of the 2022 budget statement by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on behalf of the government of Ghana has ignited a lot of confusion and commotions in the country birthing a bustling amount of comments and reactions from many people's.

Furthermore, the controversial 2022 budget statement by the incumbent government have therefore created disparity among the Lawmakers in the country as the minorities are against some of the packages contained in the budget notable is the Electronic Transactions Levy.

The Majority's on the other hand is defending the motion explaining that the E-Levy will help mobilised funds to enable the government to undertake some important projects and pressing matters in the country such as roads, infrastructure, unemployment etc.
