In absolute defiance of the code of conduct issued by the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party in January 2021 on internal elections, the Food and Agriculture Minister, Hon. Akoto Afriyie has been caught on tape soliciting for votes for the NPP's flagbearship race.
The former Member of Parliament for Kwadaso assembled five(5) out of the eighteen(18) delegates at a hotel to inform them of his intentions to contest the presidential primaries of the party at Gilbert hotel in Tamale, capital of the Northern Region.
According to sources, the meeting delayed for 5 hours because the Presidential hopeful visited the palace of Ya-Na in Yendi to pay homeage.
Participants of the meeting were allegedly paid ¢2000 each for attending the meeting.
The Minister blamed everybody including President Akufo-Addo for mismanaging the party and neglecting the grassroots who wields all the power.
He promised a better way of getting all members involved with decision making and a good performance in government if elected to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
This is not the first time this has happened. In March, a similar meeting happened in the Ashanti Region but the outfit of the minister declined knowledge of it. Another meeting with constituency and regional executives is expected this week.
Names like Vice President Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia, Alan Kyeremateng, Joe Ghartey, Boakye Agyarko and a few others have popped up as persons interested in contesting for the flagbearship race going into 2024.
