Likely Man City's Champions League knockout opponents include qualified teams as well as potential opponents in the last-16 draw.
Manchester City came out on top of a difficult UEFA Champions League group to earn a better draw in the Round of 16.
Pep Guardiola's side finished ahead of PSG and RB Leipzig, and will enter the knockout stages of Europe's top club competition as one of the teams to avoid.
Though they lost to Leipzig in their last game, there was nothing riding on the game, and rivals will be aware that City will be looking to go one better after losing to Chelsea in the final last season.
Despite the fact that the final group games have yet to be played, the Blues have a good idea of who they may face over two legs when the competition begins in 2022.
Qualified teams
Twelve teams have already qualified for the round of 16, with only four more spots available on Wednesday.
• Manchester City
• PSG
• Liverpool
• Atletico Madrid
• Ajax
• Sporting Lisbon
• Real Madrid
• Inter Milan
• Bayern Munich
• Manchester United
• Chelsea
• Juventus
City will not play any team that finishes first in their group, as well as any of their English opponents, including Liverpool, the aforementioned Chelsea, and Manchester United, due to regulatory rules. They will not also face PSG, whom they defeated in Group A.
They are guaranteed to play their first knockout game away because they are a seeded team, giving them the advantage of playing the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
The tournament this year, however, will be the first without the away-goal rule.
Atletico Madrid, Sporting CP, Inter Milan, and Juventus are all expected to advance, providing City with a preview of what is to come in the near future.
Any of the four teams in Group G – Lille, RB Salzburg, Sevilla, and Wolfsburg – could qualify as runners-up on Wednesday night.
As could Villarreal and Atalanta, who play each other in Group F. The Yellow Submarines only need a draw to finish second to Manchester United.
In Group E, Barcelona travels to Bayern Munich in search of a win in order to finish second, while Benfica hopes to defeat Dynamo Kiev while hoping for a favor from the German scan.
The draw for the final 16 will be held on Monday, December 13.
The first legs will be held on February 15, 16, 22, and 23, followed by the second legs on March 8, 9, 15, and 16.
