Barcelona finished third place in the group after a painful 3:0 lost at Alianz Arena. Barcelona who are already struggling in their home league and Europe has dropped to Europa league for the first time.
Barcelona needed a win to extend their 17 years streak in champions league last 16, but German side , Bayern Munich prevented them from sailing through to the next round.
They will now drop to the second tier of the competition that is the Europa league for the first time in their football history as a consolation.
The competition in Europa league has become tough to the extent that teams that placed second will need to face teams that were dropped from the champions league while teams that placed first waits for teams that will qualify to the next round.
Therefore 8 teams that will place second will face 8 teams that were dropped from Champions league.
In group A of the Europa league, Rangers has already booked the second place of the competition and might face Barcelona when the draw takes place.
Teams from the Same country can not face each other whiles those who placed second in the Europa league will host the second leg of the round of 16.
