The Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) says the recent 15 pesewas reduction in prices of petroleum products was the company's own initiative to provide relief taking into consideration the impact of covid on the ordinary Ghanaian and not a directive from government.
According to GOIL, the reduction was done to "cushion Ghanaians in this difficult post-covid period."
GOIL in a statement issued on Wednesday, December 8, also suspended its membership of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) over allegations that its 15 pesewas reduction in fuel prices was directed by the government.
On Monday, December 6, government directed Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to make reductions in fuel prices to provide relief to the commercial transport operators who embarked on a strike.
After GOIL had made a 15-pesewa reduction in prices of petroleum prices, the AOMCs, on the other hand, wrote to the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, requesting the government to avoid deregulating prices like the OMCs are doing.
In the released statement, GOIL stated explicitly that there is no proof to show that government influenced its price reduction.
GOIL wants the AOMC to substantiate its allegation with proof.
