Cesar Azpilicueta cautioned his floundering Chelsea partners not to rehash the missteps of last season after their new droop proceeded against Zenit on Wednesday night.
A 3-3 draw cost Thomas Tuchel's side best position in their Champions League bunch – which means they qualified for the knockout stages as a sprinter up to Juventus.
It followed Saturday's 3-2 loss to West Ham, which saw them drop from first to third in the Premier League.
A run that has seen Chelsea win only three of their last seven in all contests might bring back stressing recollections of last season's breakdown around Christmas and New Year that eventually cost Frank Lampard his job. Azpilicueta concedes principles have been permitted to plunge and requests to see a response against Leeds on Saturday.
"The facts confirm that in Chelsea, you needn't bother with a major number of losses in succession to consider it a terrible period or an emergency," he said. "It is important for this present club's desire to go into each contest and contend at the top.
"Last season, in December, we were top of the gathering and [near the] top of the Premier League, and we had an extremely awful run of results.
"Consistently is unique. We have various individuals, various players and it is only that we really want everyone to get that additional percent as people and collectively. Right now we are committing a ton of errors. We really want to recuperate that focused energy, the strength from the entire group to not yield possibilities.
"We have yielded an excessive number of and I believe that the key for our prosperity was to safeguard well, to not surrender possibilities, to be savage before objective. We want to recuperate this.
"In football, we are on the plane straight away and play again on Saturday. We get the opportunity to have a decent game, a decent presentation from the primary moment to the last, and ideally, we can get an outcome and from that point fabricate and not drop any longer focuses."
Completing the second means Chelsea faces a potential round of 16 ties against Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.
Azpilicueta added: "We realize a draw isn't sufficient and to complete second isn't the place where we need to be. "We need to put forth a valiant effort," he added. "For a few of us, it was a major change as we were not playing recently so we got the opportunity to play for Chelsea in a Champions League game, to complete top of the table.
