Ralf Rangnick reveals that David de Gea will remain Manchester United's No. 1 goalkeeper, with interim coach Ralf Rangnick open to Dean Henderson or another back-up keeper going out on loan in January.
Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper will remain David de Gea.
Last season, the Spaniard shared the gloves with Dean Henderson at United, but De Gea has started in the vast majority of United's games this season. Henderson and Tom Heaton each played a half against Young Boys in midweek.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick is ready to loaning out understudies.
Ralf Rangnick has confirmed David de Gea as Manchester United's number one goalkeeper and says he is willing to loan out any dissatisfied players during the January transfer window.
After sharing the duties with Dean Henderson last season, De Gea has re-established himself as United's first-choice goalkeeper.
Rangnick handed summer recruit Tom Heaton a chance in the second half after Henderson made only his second start of the season against Young Boys in midweek.
Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper, David de Gea, will be retained this season.
Ralf Rangnick, United's interim coach, is open to the club's other goalkeepers being loaned away.
Matej Kovar was also on the bench for United, and veteran Lee Grant rounds out the goalkeeping roster at Old Trafford.
Henderson has made no secret of his desire to be the starting goalkeeper in order to improve his chances of playing for England, and he could look for a move in January or at the conclusion of the season.
Rangnick will listen to any players who want to go in pursuit of regular playing time, but he has promised that United will not be without cover for the rest of the season.
'We have a number of quality goalkeepers,' the interim manager remarked. 'We saw that against Young Boys, both goalkeepers who played did well.
After sharing duties last season, Dean Henderson has played less for United this season.
'We have a top goalkeeper in David de Gea as our No. 1 goalie. We have at least three, if not four or five, capable goalkeepers in this position. We'll have to wait and see how things play out in the winter.
'One or two of them may wish to go on loan someplace, but we must keep in mind that we have three competitions in the next six months - the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League – and we will undoubtedly require three great goalkeepers to cover for a player who is injured or suspended.
'This week, I got to know the players a little better.' This week, I saw the majority of them play in two games and four or five training sessions, but it's too early to speculate on what might happen in the winter transfer window.
On Wednesday, at the age of 35, Tom Heaton replaced Henderson and made his Man United debut.
'It's still a big group when I look at the number of players we have.' There aren't enough players on our team.
'We also need to ensure that players desire to stay in our city.' Whether they don't receive enough playing time here, it might make sense to chat with the players individually to see if a loan arrangement makes sense, but that's still too early to discuss.'
