The Member of Parliament for Bongo, Edward Baawa, said negotiations on the e-levy policy has come to cessation.
“Negotiations have collapsed,” he said.
Speaking on The Key Points on Saturday, December 11, 2021, Baawa lambasted the Akufo-Addo-led administration for introducing more taxes though it has criticized the Mahama-led government for introducing more taxes.
He made reference to an article published by the pro-NPP Statesman newspaper which castigated John Dramani Mahama for introducing numerous taxes.
However, Kabiru Mahama, Economic Policy Analyst at the Office of the Vice President, refuted the claim that negotiations have come to an end.
According to him, negotiations have not collapsed from the point of view of the government.
He said the stance of the Minority Caucus on the e-levy policy does not represent the stance of Ghanaians.
“It is quite unfortunate to state that consultations have collapsed,” he said.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Attah, while briefing the press, indicated that negotiations with the Minority Caucus on the e-levy were in session.
Reacting to his comment, Bawa said negotiations had collapsed.
