In September 2017, a debate in Uganda's parliament over a bill devolved into violence, with members hitting one another with chairs.


The bill that sparked the violence would change elements of the constitution that dealt with elections. 


The bill would cancel the age restriction for presidential aspirants.


The constitution of Uganda prohibits anyone beyond the age of 75 from consisting for the presidency.


If they passed the bill, the incumbent President by then, Yoweri Museveni who was 73 years old would be eligible to contest again.


Museveni was 73 in 2017 and had been in power since 1986.


Whilst a large number of MPs supported the passing of the bill, a few MPs rejected it. This led to the braw.
