Host of TV3's morning show Newday, Johnny Beresford Hughes has said he does not understand the fact that Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia, Vice President of the republic of Ghana, has not spoke to the 2022 budget since it's presentation a month ago and all the hullabaloo that surrounds it.
According to the award winning journalist, Dr. Bawumia in August 2020 explained that, it was regressive to tax electronic transactions such as Mobile Money because the people who mostly use the service are poor and it will be better to explain to Ghanaians why he is acting against his words.
Speaking on a segment dedicated to the plights of the citizenry called "Johnny Bites", Mr. Beresford Hughes registered his disappointment over Dr. Bawumia's silence on the e-levy and indicated that it is worrying for a once vocal man like the Veep to be silent.
He indicated that the hike in fuel prices, fast depreciation of the cedi, increasing prices of food and services, infamous e-levy is an indication of an economy with weak fundamentals.
"I think the fundamentals have finally exposed this government. Someone who have been vocal have gone totally mute. We have not Dr. Bawumia speak for weeks. Dr. Bawumia, I don't understand what is happening in the country and in fact, I don't get the whole show".
Many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment in the government over the increasing hardships in the country.
