According to rumours in Spain, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is enraged by Real Madrid's pursuit of Antonio Rudiger and may now pull the plug on any potential deal to bring Eden Hazard back to Stamford Bridge.

Rudiger, 28, is approaching the end of his current Blues contract and does not look to be close to signing a new one.

As a result, the Germany centre-back will be free to transfer overseas at the start of the year, and he has already begun talks with Real Madrid.

In recent weeks, the Spanish giants are said to have held talks with his brother and agent, Sahr Senesie, and both parties have reached an informal agreement. According to El Nacional, Madrid's pursuit of Rudiger has irritated Abramovich, who is willing to walk away from talks over Hazard as a result.

He is said to have been considering an emotional comeback for the Chelsea legend in recent months, which was music to Florentino Perez's ears given the club's desperate need to be rid of him as soon as possible.

Hazard has fallen short of expectations since joining Real Madrid for £130 million in 2019, owing partly to injuries.

Despite the fact that he is approaching the midway point of his third season at Real, he has only made 40 La Liga games. Despite his problems, Abramovich seems interested in bringing Hazard back to Chelsea next year, where he scored 110 goals in 352 games.

Should Madrid succeed in luring Rudiger to Madrid, the Blues boss may opt to turn down a move for Hazard out of anger.

Abramovich is also said to be dissatisfied with Rudiger, who has yet to sign a contract extension despite receiving more lucrative offers from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
