The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said the Ministry of Education intends to pilot the 6-year secondary education effective 2023.
According to him, this initiative will have Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools merged and managed by one headmaster.
This according to him, is part of measures to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics(STEM) in the country.
The new educational system, he said, will be piloted at 15 sides and each school will be equipped with a Physics laboratory, Biology laboratory, and Chemistry laboratory.
In the new educational system, students will not change school after primary until they complete their six-year secondary education before they pursue their tertiary education in their favourite institutions.
“In 2023 when we open those schools you are going to see how we are going to provide six years quality secondary education and not three years plus some three years old middle school-led education that we call high school,” the Minister said.
