The 31st sitting of the 3rd meeting of the 1st session of the 8th Parliament is currently underway with proceedings as the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin is back to the country after his health break.
Ghanaians are expecting another showdown in the law making chamber as happened during previous sittings over the approval or otherwise of the 2022 budget.
It would be recalled that, the house rejected the 2022 budget presented by the Finance minister when the majority group staged a walkout.
The same rejected budget was again approved by the majority group when the minority group boycotted sitting for the day and later challenged the decisions of the 1st deputy Speaker for overturning the decision of the Speaker.
In his opening remarks today, the Speaker apologized to Ghanaians for the turn of events in his absence and called for consensus building between the two sides.
He expressed worry about the 1st deputy Speakers resolve to overturn his ruling without consulting him.
"I cannot blame him for what happened. He might not be privy to this. What he did was like undermining the Speaker. He is Joe Wise and not Joe the Wise. The Vice President cannot overturn a decision made by the president at a cabinet meeting, Can he?", he questioned.
Alban Bagbin directed the Finance minister to submit to the house an amended budget considering all the changes made through consensus.
