The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, said he will not be labeled as "an errand boy" to the President and his Ministers as well as he will not superintend over a flimsy Parliament.
Presiding over the House on Thursday, December 17 after a three-week medical review in Dubai, the Speaker reiterated his pledge to the Ghanaian people that he will not disrupt government business to satisfy his own selfish desires and he will not also superintend over a House that fully submits to the whims and caprices of the executive arm of Government in contravention of the standing orders of Parliament.
"I would not superintend over a Parliament to frustrate Government business. But I will equally not preside over a weak House or be tagged as an errand boy of the Executive arm of government," he said.
He added that the legislative arm of government will exercise its jurisdiction without succumbing to intimidation and without expressing favoritism to ensure that the will of the Ghanaian people are served.
"This House is fully focused on discharging its mandate and will do so without any fear or favour, affection or ill-will in ensuring the ultimate best interests of the Ghanaian people are served," he said.
