A graduate of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) who sold bread on the street to raise money to fund his tertiary education, Nathan Larbi, said his friends subjected him to ridicule because of his job but despite that he managed to graduate with First Class Honours in BSc. Agribusiness.
Graduating from the UCC's College of Agriculture on Thursday, December 16, Nathan said his journey in the University had been a tedious one as he had to combine his mini-business with education.
"In fact, it wasn’t an easy task for me at all yet, I have been able to blend business with studies of which I have successfully graduated today as a first-class student of UCC," he said.
Nathan said he also took it as a responsibility upon his shoulders to provide for his poor parents from proceeds made from his bread business.
Despite being mocked by his colleagues for selling bread on the streets, Nathan said he endured the pain and stayed committed to his hustle until he was able to establish a maize trading enterprise known as Sankofa Maize Connect Enterprise (SMC) recognized by the Registrar General Department.
SMC, he said, now operates in collaboration with a UK-based organization known as Umoja Generation wealth.
The First Class graduate further entreated the Ghanaian youths to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit and think of creating jobs for themselves instead of relying on non-existing office jobs.
Finally, he urged youths who find themselves in his shoes to persevere and never lose hope.
