North Korea's high authorities placed a ban on the wearing of leather coats by the citizenry, claiming it is a sign of disrespect to the President, Kim Jong Un, who also wears leather coats.
According to the authorities, it is unlawful to imitate the President's code of dressing.
The wearing of leather coats became dominant after the President adopted it as his favourite dress.
Leather coats were initially imported from China and bought by the opulent.
However, when it became a common dress in North Korea, dressmakers began to import low-quality leathers and produce them domestically.
The Koreans now developed a taste for leather coats.
In order to prevent citizens from copying the style of the High Dignity, North Korea places a ban on the wearing of leather coats.
