Trent Alexander-Arnold, a Liverpool midfielder, has stated unequivocally that he would sooner retire than play for Manchester United.
The most successful clubs in England are Liverpool and Manchester United. For decades, the two have battled for bragging rights, and their rivalry is intense.
The North West Derby is something that everyone at Liverpool and Manchester United is aware of. Local players at both clubs, on the other hand, have a lot more feelings about the rivalry.
Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford and Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones are both Merseyside natives. Alexander-Arnold is another Liverpudlian who has established himself as a vital member of the Reds' squad. Whether you're a local lad or not, playing for Manchester United after leaving Liverpool or vice versa is frowned upon by both teams' fans, and Alexander-Arnold is well aware of this. "Right now, [I would] retire, to be honest, couldn't do that [join Manchester United]," the 23-year-old told Sky Sports when asked whether he would retire or play for the Red Devils.
Alexander-Arnold also revealed that he would rather play for Manchester United than Everton in the Merseyside Derby. He stated, " "Manchester United, after all, has a longer history. Manchester United, because more people watch it."In October, Alexander-Arnold played a key role in Jurgen Klopp's side's 5-0 win over Manchester United. When the Red Devils come to Anfield in the Premier League in March, he'll be looking to do the same.
SOME PLAYERS WHO PLAYED FOR LIVERPOOL AND MANCHESTER UNITED
Despite their bitter rivalry, numerous players have represented both Liverpool and Manchester United over the years. Only two teams have done it since the Premier League's inception in 1992.
Michael Owen is one of the most well-known footballers in Liverpool and Manchester United history. Paul Ince did the same, however it's worth noting that neither of them directly swapped the two clubs. Owen made his senior debut for Liverpool in 1997 after rising through the ranks of the club's academy. After playing for Real Madrid and Newcastle United, he joined Manchester United in 2009.
In the summer of 1989, Ince joined the Red Devils from West Ham United. The Englishman spent six years with Manchester United before joining Inter Milan in 1995.
He returned to England two years later after joining with Liverpool.
