The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said emphasis should be laid on providing good governance and not winning the 2024 general elections.
According to him, it is too early for the Ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be thinking about the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to JoyNews on Sunday, December 19, the Lands Minister said the party should focus on ensuring good governance and delivering on its promises.
He said the proposal for the party's flagbearer to be chosen two years before a general election is not necessary.
According to him, a ruling party regains power based on how it can implement policies to transform positively the lives of people and not on which flag bearer the party chooses.
The ability of the party to win power again, Jinapor said, is centered on the impact of the party's governance. Whether the citizens are happy with the party's governance or not, he said, must be considered.
“I want to submit and I want to do so forcefully that you win or lose elections when you are in government based on how you govern [and] not so much when you elect your candidate. Based on how you govern, based on how your country people perceive your governance – whether they are satisfied with your governance or they are not satisfied with your governance.”
The Natural Resources Minister warns the NPP against creating a perception that the party only cares about winning elections instead of mitigating the sufferings of the masses.
