The National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus and the New Patriotic Party (NDC) caucus are currently at the chamber as the controversial e-levy policy's deliberations are ongoing but the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, is nowhere to be found.
In the afternoon, the Speaker was seen in the chamber presiding over proceedings but later on, he left the chamber for the second deputy speaker to take over.
The two caucuses are ready to vote to either approve or disapprove the levy but the NPP caucus says if Bagbin does not show up, business will not continue.
According to the deputy majority leader, Afenyo Markin, the speaker might have deliberately left the chamber to frustrate government's business.
He said if the Speaker is not in the Chamber, one of the NPP members, either the first deputy speaker or the second deputy speaker, will preside over the proceedings which is going to go against the NPP in the approval of the budget.
But a member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC, Abu Jinapor, said "the speaker does not have to be in the house all the time. That's why we have the first deputy speaker and the second deputy speaker."
The MP for Asawase also told JoyNews that the speaker is not medically fit and might have left to take his drugs.
The video below contains the NPP caucus' press statement on Bagbin's disappearance.
