The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, said the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin is deliberately obstructing government's business because the Finance Minister failed to allocate 1.72 billion Ghana cedis to Parliament as he demanded.
In a press conference on Thursday, December 23,
Keyei Mensah said the Speaker told Ken Ofori Attah that he was aware the country's total revenue was 89 billion cedis and so two percent of the revenue which is 1.72 billion cedis should be allocated to the legislature.
He further alleged that Bagbin vowed to reject the budget if Ken Ofori Attah failed to give Parliament the demanded amount.
"He says that he has information that the total revenue of the country was 89 billion and that the Finance Minister should give him two percent of it and that worth to 1.72 billion. If he doesn't give Parliament two percent of it, then his budget will be thrown away," he said.
The Majority Leader said Bagbin should be blamed for the fisticuffs in the Chamber concerning the 2022 budget.
He said the Speaker deliberately left the Chamber on Tuesday night when deliberations on the e-levy which was under a certificate of urgency, was ongoing.
But the Speaker, while briefing the press at Parliament on Thursday denied the accusation.
According to him, the Majority caucus deliberately delayed to lay the e-levy before the house because most of their members were not in the house.
He added that he only left the chamber after 10 pm because it was late and he wanted to go home and have a rest.
