The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, said the approval of the controversial e-levy can risk the New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s chance of winning the 2024 general elections.
Addressing former
Members of Parliament at a forum on Thursday, December 23, the Speaker told the NPP that the e-levy will lead to the downfall of the party in the next election.
"Don't be surprised if, in the next election, you don't win," he said.
He also rubbished allegations that he deliberately went home on Tuesday at a time when the house wanted to vote on the e-levy.
According to him, the majority caucus must be blamed for not presenting the e-levy before the house on time for deliberations.
He said he presided over about six businesses until it was late and so he drove home to have a rest at about 10 pm because of fatigue.
