According to reports in England, Chelsea will make a bid for Barcelona defender Sergio Dest, who is due to depart Camp Nou next month.
In the upcoming transfer window, Chelsea want to take Sergio Dest from Barcelona. At least, according to The Daily Express in the United Kingdom, the Premier League team is drafting a 30 million euro offer that will arrive at the Camp Nou offices in the coming days. With César Azpilicueta expected to leave the club, Chelsea will be short-handed at right-back, with only Reece James - who is having a terrific season - to fall back on. Thomas Tüchel like to have the position well-protected, and sees the United States international as a promising future possibility worth pursuing.
Barcelona's team has been reshuffled.
In the interim, Barcelona is attempting to find new homes for a number of players in order to cut their pay cost and register any new signings made in the January window, as well as developing B team stars Nico and Gavi, as fully signed up first team members. Especially in the situations of Coutinho and Umitti, their ambitions of selling everyone on their list are a touch over-optimistic... Both players have a history of injuries, earn big contracts, and have gone extended periods of time without performing at the level expected at Barça. Others, on the other hand, will be reasonably straightforward to sell, such as Dest. The former Ajax defender has struggled to make an impact at Camp Nou. When Koeman had players out due to injury or suspension, he used Dest as a wing-back, and he was typically successful. However, a few errors, particularly when he was playing at right-back, and bad finishing cost him the opportunity to progress. All of this raises the issue of whether he is truly the first-choice right-back that Barça had envisioned for the next few years. Unfortunately for Dest, the club recently re-signed Dani Alves, who is ahead of him in the pecking order, despite Xavi's preferences. Dest has never convinced Xavi, and the player's injury troubles haven't helped matters. Barcelona requires revenue, as well as a reduction in pay costs and the registration of Ferran Torres and any other reinforcements. All things considered, and given how tough it will be for Coutinho to find a new club, Chelsea's offer for Dest would be very appealing to Barcelona. However, it will be interesting to see how Barça react to the prospect of releasing a young player with untapped potential so early in his career. For the time being, The Daily Express reports that the player is attracting interest and that an offer is on the way.
