MANCHESTER UNITED interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been informed that two of his first-team regulars are not performing at the required level.

Manchester United midfielders Fred and Scott McTominay are "not good enough," according to Liverpool legend Steve Nicol, and are the reason for the club's struggles under Ralf Rangnick. Rangnick has made Fred and McTominay regular starters since his appointment as interim coach. United, on the other hand, has struggled to get off to a good start under the German.

Rangnick has made Fred and McTominay regular starters since his appointment as interim coach. United, on the other hand, has struggled to get off to a good start under the German.

Rangnick's Red Devils are unbeaten in his four games in charge.

However, they have failed to score more than one goal in each of their games against Crystal Palace, Young Boys, Norwich City, and Newcastle.

Following Monday's 1-1 draw at Newcastle, Gary Neville slammed his former club's performance.

United struggled to create clear-cut chances and were arguably fortunate to earn a point at St James' Park.

And Nicol believes he knows why Rangnick struggled in the Premier League at first.

Former Scotland international McTominay and Brazil star Fred, he claims, are not doing their jobs defensively or offensively.

Nicol stated to ESPN FC: "Who will have Fred and McTominay on their team in the middle of the park? None of the positive aspects." So you look at the front four and wonder, 'Why aren't these guys producing?'

"So, do they get enough of the ball? So, if you can't get enough of the ball against Newcastle, who, to be honest, look like they're going down, what chance do you have?
