The Former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has urged the incumbent President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to give up power if he can't manage the economy.
Speaking on Friday, December 31, at an occasion to commemorate the 31st December Revolution on its 40th anniversary, the former president said Nana Addo must pay attention to addressing the economic challenges instead of engaging in a constant lamentation.
According to him, “it is only a poor leader who shirks responsibilities and shift blames.”
He called on the President to stop making excuses and fix the challenges confronting the country.
Mahama added that he inherited an economy that was challenged with frequent power outages but he managed to find solutions to the problem.
He said he had fully accepted the responsibility to fix the power outage crisis during his period as a president and never did he cast blames on his opponents.
He submitted that if the President cannot find solutions to the nation's problems, then he should relinquish power.
“Today somebody [President Akufo-Addo] claims he inherited a weak economy, which he hasn’t been able to be responsible for, 5 years on. It’s always about Mahama and NDC. If he [Nana Akufo-Addo] can not do the job, he should give way for the NDC to do it for you.”
This comes after the President admitted at the New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi that Ghanaians are having hard times.
The President said even though Ghanaians are facing economic hardship, he was not to be blamed.
The President also rained blames on the Former President for his inability to suggest a commendable single policy to the government over his 5 years in opposition.
But Mahama said he should accept the responsibility of addressing the challenges or he quit office for the opposition.
