A military officer, Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu Frimpong, who was seen in a viral video firing several gunshots at the A&C Mall in East Legon on December 31, 2021, to welcome the new year, has been arrested and detained.
A statement issued by the police on Monday, January 3, 2022, says Flt. Sergeant Nicholas Owusu was arrested with the help of the military police and the police.
The Police upon seeing the viral video placed an amount of Ghc 5,000 as a bounty for whoever was able to provide details leading to his arrest and prosecution.
The police launched an investigation into the incident and eventually realized that the ununiformed man in the video is a military officer.
A collaboration between the two security agencies has led to the arrest of the victim.
Sergeant Owusu is currently in the custody of the police as investigations continue.
The police continue to urge the general public to enjoy the festive season devoid of various acts of lawlessness which can make them face the wrath of the law.
