Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Ralf Rangnick is unsuitable to lead Manchester United.
Former Manchester United striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes interim manager Ralf Rangnick is not the right man for the job at Old Trafford.
Wolves stunned United at home on Monday night, taking all three points thanks to a late Joao Moutinho strike, their first victory at Old Trafford since February 1980.
Rangnick's first defeat since taking over for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the United dugout has heightened scrutiny on this United team.
United look worse off after adding Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer transfer window, and Rangnick's ideas are failing on the pitch as Wolves looked in control for large parts of the game.
In an interview with Football Insider, Agbonlahor slammed Rangnick's formation and singled out Sancho and Marcus Rashford as players who let the team down throughout the game.
"Man United aren't playing a 4-2-2-2, they're playing a 4-4-2 – it's like going back 15 years," he explained. "Manchester United haven't used a 4-4-2 formation in years." Perhaps it worked during the times of [Wayne] Rooney and [Dimitar] Berbatov, with Nani and Ronaldo on the wings.
"This squad isn't working right now. "They were overrun in midfield." The players' attitudes. Sancho, on the other hand, was brought in for a large fee and didn't take anyone on. Semedo had the easiest game he'd ever played. Sancho didn't take him on, but simply passed him by. He lacked self-assurance.
"Rashford came on, and his body language suggests he's sulking." "Whenever the camera was on him, he didn't appear to be happy." [Mason] Greenwood was the only one who shouldn't have been removed, and yet he was.
"He reminds me of a school's headmaster who has been brought in to be a manager." He's a million miles away.
It encapsulates Manchester United as a club over the last few years. They can't seem to get anything right." Ole wasn't the guy. They've gone to Rangnick for whatever reason, and he's not up to the task. " It comes to a point where, even if there is no manager, players must accept responsibility. Players can take control of the situation and put on a show.
