Hello everyone am Adzakpasu Shadrach living in Savannah region of Ghana. Today am writing about five medical tests you should have before marriage exclusively. These are tests I went through before getting married which help me greatly.
1.HIV/STDS TEST:
The arguments in favor of such a testing requirement include (1)benefits associated with identifying and informing HIV-positive people (2) informing prospective marital partners each other’s HIV status and the associated risks and (3)informing couples of HIV risk factors and prenatal risks. A pre-marital HIV mandatory test does not prevent persons from getting infected after marriage, and thereby putting the spouse at the risk of getting infected. Mandatory test would only drive the disease underground.
(2) FERTILITY TEST: This is another test that should be taken into consideration when planning to marry. An infertility test is designed to let you know the health of ovaries and the sperm count. Since there are no clear symptoms of infertility, it’s important to undergo infertility test if you are planning to have a baby in the future or even have a normal sex life. Both partners should undergo infertility test before their marriage. In men, it helps in checking the health of sperm and sperm count as well . Women can also become clear if they will face any problem in conceiving or not.
(3) BLOOD GROUP:
This is an important test as it can prevent the chances of birth defect in children. When both the partners who have thalassemia minor get married, the chances are high that your child may get some birth defect. Blood type has no effect on your ability to have and maintain a happy, healthy marriage. There are some concern about blood type compatibility if you are planning to have a biological children with your partner, but there are options during pregnancy that can help counteract these risks.
(4) GENOTYPE:
Knowing one’s hemoglobin genotype before choosing a life partner is very important because there may be compatibility issues which could have devastating effects when it comes to conception. Again, knowing your genotype or genetic mutation, could help determine your eligibility for clinical trials, which drugs to avoid because of inhibitor development, or your carrier status. Some examples are; Rh+ ve man should try to avoid marrying Rh- ve lady and men with B+ blood group can marry women with O+ blood group.
(5) CHRONIC MEDICAL DISEASE:
This is another test one should consider before getting married. This is a disease or condition that usually lasts for (3)months or longer and may get worse overtime. Chronic diseases tend to occur in older adults and can usually be controlled and not cured. The most common type of chronic diseases are Cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and arthritis. Taken the above test into consideration will minimize overspending on health and promote healthy marriage.
