Azonto is a
music and dance genre from Ghana that once went viral globally. The music first
commercialized by pioneers R2bees, Fuse, Sarkodie, EL, and Gasmila was once the go-to type
of music playing in homes, Bars, Clubs, restaurants, all sorts of recreational centers, and literarily everywhere at all times.
Today this genre seems to be totally non-existent even though some still
do its music. However, the gradual fade and extinction of this type of music
were long ago foretold by Ghanaian rapper M.anifest which eventually did come to
pass. Here is some perspective music fan on why M.anifest’s prophecy came to
fruition. “… The majority of Ghanaian artists jumped on sounds for years. At
some point, people were fed up with the same sound” said @NiiChelsea_ on Twitter to corroborate what
M.anifest had foretold and its coming to past.
Nii also juxtaposed
the situation with a new and trending type of music called Asakaa where he
thinks it is flourishing now because of the introduction of certain new music
elements which helps it evolve and stand the test of time becoming more
appealing to a lot more people in the process just as the popular afrobeat
has done.
