A list recently published by Global Peace Index (GPI), 2021 edition has seen Ghana declared as the most peaceful country in West Africa and 2nd most peaceful in the whole of Africa.
Ghana was also ranked 38th globally on the global list where Iceland, New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, Slovenia, and Austria occupy the first to fifth spots respectively.
The list is curated by considering several factors in the country. These factors include; recent domestic and international conflicts the country is involved in, terrorist attacks on the county, violent demonstrations, the stability of the political scene in the country, etc.
Here is the list of the top 10 most peaceful African countries
1. Mauritius
2. Ghana
3. Botswana
4. Sierra Leone
5. The Gambia
6. Senegal
7. Tanzania
8. Malawi
9. Equatorial Guinea
10. Namibia
Things seem to be bad for Nigeria as they are ranked 146th globally with a previous ranking of 147. Other worst performing African countries include; Ethiopia, Cameroon, Mali, Sudan, Central African Republic, Libya, DR Congo, Somalia and South Sudan all ranking above 130 globally.
