As a newly admitted student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and any other public university in Ghana, there are some items that one must avoid going to school with.
It is not illegal to send such items to school but the truth is, they are not necessary. In fact, one may be mocked by continuing students for bringing any of such items.
Some of the items a newly admitted student should avoid coming to school with are;
Mattress
As a new student at the University of Cape Coast, sending mattresses to school is a burden and a waste of money. A student who is granted admission is automatically assigned to a traditional hall of residence.
The student is provided the opportunity to select his room of choice in his admission portal before reporting.
There are already mattresses in the various rooms. Hence, sending a mattress to school makes you look like a greenhorn at the Senior High School.
In fact, even in some senior high schools, mattresses are already provided.
Chop box/ trunk
It is funny seeing a newly admitted university student arriving at school with a chop box or a trunk. While sending a chop box/ trunk is normal in high school, it is considered ridiculous and hilarious at the university.
One may see his pictures trending on the Internet and being subjected to mockery for arriving at the University with any of these two.
You can get a sack bag popularly known as "Ghana must go bag" and park in your foodstuff or items.
There are wardrobes or lockers in the various rooms at the various traditional halls of residence in UCC.
Mortar and pestle
As an indigenous student, it is not a surprise to have "fufu" as your favourite food.
However, it is laughable to bring mortar and pestle to the hall for fufu.
If you are a fun of fufu, you either purchase powdered products you can use to prepare your fufu or locate your favourite fufu joint on campus.
In fact, fufu is sold in almost every restaurant in the university's residential halls.
It is advisable not to bring any of the items stated above though not compulsory in order not to be made a laughing stock upon your arrival.
