Appiah-Kusi Adomako, the West Africa Regional Director for Cuts International, has ascribed MTN's ability to increase the cost of its data without resorting to public outcry to their market power.

MTN Ghana launched new Fibre broadband and Turbonet bundle prices on January 4, 2022, which increased by about 50% with a 90-day validity.

Ghanaians have reacted negatively to this new development.

Mr. Appiah- Kusi Adomako spoke with Bernard Avle, host of the Citi Breakfast Show.

"Because MTN is the biggest player, we can say it has market power, and when a company has market power, it can raise prices above the current level and keep them there." Because of its large market size, it knows that once prices are raised, it can maintain them without fear of losses or a drop in demand. As a result, if a company has a dominant market share, it can do things that other firms can't."

Before the revised pricing, GHS 300 worth of data was equivalent to 393.58GB of MTN Fibre broadband and 332.57GB of MTN TurboNet, respectively.

Customers may now get 231.08GB of MTN Fibre Broadband and 190.23GB of TurboNet for the same cost.

"Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, Respected Customer." Please note that the pricing of Fibre broadband and TurboNet bundles will increase on January 4, 2022, with a 90-day validity period. Within the first three months after the increase, you will receive a 50% bonus on all purchases. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide greater service to you. #WeDey4U,” This message was sent to MTN's subscribers.
