Ghana Police Service says it has commenced scrutinizing some video clips of prophecies made by some Ghanaian pastors on the night of December 31, 2021.
A statement issued on January 6, 2022 by Supt. Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director of Public Relations for the police, says the police have come across video clips regarding prophecies made about the year 2022 and their contents have been subjected to investigations in order to find out whether they are in contravention of the laws of the land or not.
"...multiple video footages have come to our attention regarding the communication of prophecies on the night of 31st December 2021. Police have began analysing these videos to to ascertain whether any of them is in breach of the laws of the country..."
The statement also says that any pastor found culpable will be used as a scapegoat before the court.
This statement comes after the police, during the Christmas season, sent a strong warning to the public and religious groups to desist from making pronouncements that can instigate fear and panic.
The police said it is constitutionally unacceptable to disseminate fallacious information with the motivate of causing fear and public.
The police cautioned religious bodies against making doom prophecies without evidence especially on 31st-nights.
However, certain prophecies, despite the warning, were made by some pastors such as Owusu Bempah, Nigel Gaisie and Kumchacha.
The police said investigations into the nature of such prophecies are ongoing and offenders will be made to face the music.
