The
football ball world woke up to the news of Coutinho moving to Aston Villa on a
loan deal. The Brazilian born attacker, completed a loan move to Villa to
re-unite with his once upon a time teammate and current gaffer of Aston Villa. Conversely,
the move is subject to him successfully completing medicals and seeking work
permit from English authorities.
What
went wrong?
Coutinho
left for a mega sum of 135 million Euros in January 2018, Liverpool’s record
sale for a player. Having moved to FC Barcelona for big money, the former Inter
Milan and Liverpool star has not had the best of times at the Camp Nou. Failing
to live up to the hype and expectations from the entire Barcelona hierarchy
with the fans inclusive, his career at Barcelona has been smeared with a loan
move to Bayern Munich (current champions of Germany) and unending rumours of
plans to ship him out of Camp Nou.
Once
touted as the anchor of Gegen Press, Coutinho has declined rapidly in recent
times. Reports suggested that he was not well integrated into the Barcelona set
up with him being played most times not in his ‘favourite’ position. His
failure to adapt to Spanish football coupled with the lofty expectation at
Barcelona made matters worse. Even in the Post-Messi Era at Barcelona, Coutinho
has failed to match up the huge investment Barcelona has made on him. Maybe,
the grass is not always greener at the other side.
Gains
for Aston Villa
A
move to Aston Villa looks to be a great one for a player seeking to revive his
career and could be a perfect time for Coutinho to re-build his status as one
of the best playmakers the world of football has ever witnessed. He has the
ability of playing as an attacking midfielder, second striker, as a central
midfielder in a number 8 role, or even as a wide attacking midfielder on the
flanks, where he excels at providing assists for teammates. He is very
technical and has an incredible shooting ability. These attributes coupled with
his impeccable dribbling skills will surely be a secret weapon to this
inspiring Aston Villa side. With Aston Villa having an option to buy and
reportedly expected to pay 65% of Coutinho’s wages, Coutinho must prove his
worth and aid the Villans dream of finishing Top 8.
